YEAR 10 RETURNING TO THE SCHOOL SITE - MONDAY, 23 APRIL

You are now aware that the pupils will return to the school site on Monday. The first phase of programme of repairs to make the school site safe will be completed by this weekend and it will be safe for everyone to return. Thorough risk assessments have been completed to ensure this.

From Monday onwards the work of re-roofing most of the school will start. The aim is for the work to be completed by the end of the summer holidays. During this period, contractors will work closely with the school to ensure that the work does not impede with the school's activities.

The work will be completed by each block in turn making the upper floor rooms of that particular block unavailable temporarily. As a result, the lessons in those rooms will be relocated within the school or at times to the Old Library/Youth Club in Harlech. To this end, pupils will be transported in a shuttle bus.

Pupils will only be re-located at the Old Library/Youth Club for part of the day and will always return to school for lunch. The provision of free meals will come to an end now that we are back at school.

During this first period, only Year 9, 10 and 11 pupils will be using the Old Library/Youth Club.

When National Tests for Years 7 to 9 and GCSE and Vocational examinations take place no repair work will take place that could disturb the pupils.

I am aware of everyone’s concern of the potential impact on the performance of Year 10 pupils in the external examinations. To ensure that pupils are prepared thoroughly for the Science, Welsh and English Literature, History and ICT examinations, we will offer after-school revision sessions closer to the date of the exams and I will update you again with the arrangements.

I wish to thank the teachers who have succeeded in conducting lessons under difficult conditions and for the pupils for their co-operation and positive response. I also thank you as parents for your patience and understanding during this challenging period. Finally, many thanks to Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor for providing us with a temporary home and their willingness to provide specialized facilities.

Together, a situation that initially appeared to be catastrophic, was overcome.
