Pupil Deprivation Grant

Ysgol Ardudwy’s Deprivation Grant Statement

The purpose of the Pupil Deprivation Grant is to improve outcomes for learners from low-income families who are eligible for free school meals (FSM). It is expected that schools will use this funding to the maximum to deliver sustainable strategies that will quickly lead to improvements for learners who are eligible for free school meals.

As a school we want to learn from best practice in Wales and beyond by:

  1. planning interventions that focus on improving the attainment of children from disadvantaged backgrounds, which clearly identify what is expected of the intervention, constantly monitoring pupils' progress and evaluating the effectiveness of the intervention.
  2. integrating plans for using the PDG into our School Development Plan, with practices being based on good evidence which is included as part of the whole-school strategy.
  3. balancing whole school interventions and targeted interventions to ensure that all learners eligible for free school meals benefit as an individual and that the whole school fosters it’s ability to help all learners achieve their potential full.

In 2016-17 Ysgol Ardudwy received a pupil Deprivation Grant allocation of £33,350.

At Ysgol Ardudwy we have a comprehensive plan, which has been agreed and monitored by the Gwynedd Local Authority and GwE, to promote progress and remove barriers to learning for students eligible for this funding.

The money is used to fund the employment costs of a Senior Literacy Assistant and Numeracy Assistants for targeting FSM pupils and others from families in poverty in order to intervene to raise their literacy and numeracy skills.

It is not appropriate for the school to publish its detailed plan due to the danger that individuals could be identified.
